Yes, they are commonly used with VS pumps. The lowest speed of a pump will be based on your unique setup. Pump speeds do not necessarily translate to any one flow rate, it depends on your plumbing ""Total Dynamic Head"", or your plumbing setup's resistance to flow. You can easily check if your low speed setting is sufficient by looking at your salt system's clear cell, and confirming that it is staying filled with water. If not, you'd simply increase the speed of the lowest pump setting until you achieve this.
