Do i need to use the bypass when i add salt, powdered shock, etc. to my pool? i know i must use it to add D.E. Bypass Valve Assembly Kit for CircuPool® TJ16 Pre-Filter (For Use with DE Filters Only) Filters

Good question - it is primarily for the DE powder which needs to be sure to reach the DE Filter. If there were anything else that, like the DE powder needed to be added in a concentrated form directly to the skimmer and needs to make it past the prefilter, you would use the bypass. However, I'm not immediately able to think of any other examples. Most other chemical additions are meant to go into the body of the pool and dissolve and disperse.
