If you have an algae problem you should ""shock"" your pool to kill the algae and also treat for the phosphates that are feeding the algae.
UV systems can help kill algae that is in suspension and flowing through the UV sanitizer, but will not kill any that is adhering to pool surfaces.
Once you have shocked and killed your algae bloom, a UV system will assist your pool's chlorine in sanitizing the water and help keep you free from further outbreaks.
However to be clear, a UV system on its own will not eliminate an outbreak of algae in your pool.
