According to the manufacturer, if the pool was using chlorine, it is all right to go ahead and install the MineralPURE, as the two work together fine. Remember that a salt pool is just a pool that uses an electronic chlorine generator. In fact, the manufacturer states that some chlorine should be in the pool until the system takes over. If used in tandem, be sure lower the chlorine generator output as needed.
However, if you are aiming to have a complete chlorine-free alternative pool system (suggested to be combined with an ozone generator) and will be removing the chlorine generator, the manufacturer recommends the water should be drained at least 3/4 of the way and refilled with new water to lower the water's TDS as much as possible.
