No, the water generally does not taste salty. A properly balanced saltwater pool is maintained at a salinity level of roughly 3,000 to 3,500 ppm (parts per million). For comparison, the ocean is about 35,000 ppm and a human tear is roughly 9,000 ppm. Since most people do not perceive water as "salty" until it reaches about 4,500 ppm, a salt pool is actually closer to freshwater (<1,000 ppm) than it is to seawater. Because of this safe, low level of salt - about one-tenth that of actual ocean saltwater, most people don't notice it at all; instead, they simply notice that the water feels "softer" on their skin and is gentler on their eyes than traditional chlorine pools.
