If you are getting either the "low salt" or "check cell / cell maintenance" lights are the warnings you are getting, and assuming the unit worked for two weeks until the light(s) came back on:
If the error message you are getting is something else, please see this troubleshooting guide for the Si-Series / Universal Series
- If the light is flashing
- The "low salt" light flashing means the pool's salinity level is near the bottom of the operating range and/or the cell will soon need to be cleaned
- The "check cell / cell maintenance" light flashing simply needs to be reset by holding down the System Status button. This is a time-based reminder to check the cell. (but this is not likely based on the timing you report)
- If the light(s) are solid
- Perform independent tests to ensure that the pool water's salinity is in range (recommended: titration-based chemical test, or else a recently-calibrated digital test).
- Ensure that the cell is fully cleaned (multiple times in a row if necessary, so that when fresh cleaning solution is added there is no "fizzing"). Flush cell thoroughly with a hose-end nozzle.
- Based on your description, it is possible that you are getting excessive mineral scaling. This can occur as quickly as overnight in some cases. The frequency and severity of mineral scaling is based on the pool water's LSI (Saturation Index level). This can be corrected so that fast mineral scaling does not occur, see page 5 of this guide
- Ensure that all connections and cables are fully tight, fully seated, and free of debris or damage.
- Ensure that water is completely filling the Cell throughout daily operation, esp. if getting repetitive warnings later in the same day after working initially for at least 1-5 minutes after being started up.
- Ensure that the controller has not inadvertently been changed to a different cell-type setting (Si-30 cell should be "f-9").
- Ensure that the water is within normal operating temperatures.
- If all other items check out:
- Power the unit off and on to confirm; if the cell is depleted, and all other issues have been resolved, any warning will come on within the first 1-5 minutes or so of turning the unit on. Consider also the age of the cell. A cell’s lifespan is ultimately unique to its particular usage, but assuming normal usage, care, and proper sizing, if it is years down the road and everything above has been confirmed, then it is likely the cell needs to be replaced.
