Variable speed pool pumps (VSPs) are able operate effectively with vacuum cleaners like 'Kreepy Krauly' and 'Barracuda' by when you program your pumps schedule to provide a flow rate to match the cleaner's requirements during the time(s) you want the cleaner in operation.
Since Variable-speed pool pumps can be set to operate across a wide range of RPM settings / flow rates, program the pump to run at a speed high enough to provide the cleaner’s required suction during the times you want it to operate. At lower energy-saving speeds, the cleaner may move slowly or stop.
The appropriate RPM will vary with the cleaner and pool plumbing. If you have a flow meter or a pump which allows the selection of flow rates, check if the cleaner manufacturer specifies an appropriate range of flow rates and target that. You can then save that setting as a scheduled “cleaning” period and then you will typically run the pump at lower speeds the rest of the day.
