For a 20,000-gallon pool, the CircuPool SmartFlo Adaptive Flow 2.2 THP is typically an appropriate choice based on pool size alone. It is generally used on pools in the 10,000–35,000-gallon range.
That said, pump sizing is not determined by pool volume alone. The right model also depends on your pool's hydraulic factors - or in other words, if any aspects of your pool are "higher than average" contributors to resisting water flow such as the following: your plumbing size, distance & elevation difference between the pool and equipment pad, filter type, and whether the system includes features or higher-flow equipment such as a spa, waterfalls, solar heating, in-floor cleaning, or a pressure-side cleaner.
If your pool has unusually long plumbing runs, significant elevation changes, or demanding water features, the 3.9 THP SmartFlo Adaptive Flow may be the better choice.
