I see the On/Off button on the controller; if the system is connected with the pump on the timer will the Edge come on automatically or must it be turned on every time?

Ronald, what you describe is correct - you leave the salt system set to "on" and then it automatically operates in conjunction with your pump. In other words, when the pump timer activates everything, the salt system comes back on and resumes operation with the last settings. That way you get continuous hands-off operation.
