The RJ-Series is self-cleaning like most salt systems on the market. That means that it has ""reverse polarity"" technology, which greatly inhibits/slows the rate of mineral scaling. That doesn't mean you never have to clean it yourself, just that the system does not need cleaning nearly as frequently as without that technology. Before reverse polarity, people had to clean their cell weekly; with reverse polarity, most people go 4-8 weeks or more (it ultimately depends on your water chemistry balance).
