Is using 110 V with plug in to receptacle as good as 220 V hard wired? Does vertical installation of cell as good a horizontal?

Yes, functionality in both of those examples are the same. You just want to match the voltage of your pump so you can put them on the same circuit. The system works just as well if it's installed vertically or horizontally.
