Only an IntelliChlor is directly compatible with IntelliChem’s native IntelliChlor connection. A different salt chlorinator won't use Pentair’s RS-485 communication protocol, so IntelliChem cannot read its salt level, operating status, or error messages, or directly adjust its percentage output as it can with an IntelliChlor cell.
It may be possible for a qualified installer to configure a chemical controller and/or the IntelliChem’s ORP control to switch a salt chlorinator on and off through an external relay or appropriately rated contactor. The typical salt chlorinator is designed to work with timers and external controls, so its output level would still be set at its own controls, and then its run time would be on demand to acheive the target ORP. Any such installation must also ensure that the salt chlorinator can operate only while the circulation pump is running.
