Speaking generally, the cell of a salt system can last anywhere ranging from about 3–7 years on average. Based on actual customer experience, it can be longer than that, but it can also be shorter; actual life depends on the combination of how you use it, what model it is, your pool size, the water's chlorine demand and water balance, how long the cell operates every day, and how long the cell operates at higher output levels.
Choosing a properly sized system - 1.5x to 2x your actual pool size as an industry rule of thumb - can help, since the cell can meet chlorine demand while running at a lower output setting and/or for fewer hours. Keeping the pool well maintained, and salt within the recommended ranges also plays a large role in prolonging cell life.
